We are seeking an experienced Network & Security Engineer / Manager to support a major infrastructure and security transformation programme for a large enterprise environment based in North Bristol. This role combines technical leadership with operational management responsibilities, overseeing a small team while supporting the delivery of a large-scale network refresh programme centred around Juniper technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with project delivery teams, internal stakeholders, and third-party security providers to ensure smooth implementation and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support a small team of network and security engineers, ensuring effective handling of ticket queues, incident resolution, and change management activities.
- Drive improvements across operational procedures, technical documentation, and governance processes.
- Collaborate with the Digital Project Manager to coordinate multiple concurrent infrastructure and security projects.
- Act as the technical lead for a Juniper network deployment programme, ensuring change controls, testing documentation, and implementation processes are completed to a high standard.
- Provide oversight and coordination across deployment activities to ensure delivery aligns with agreed timelines and project scope.
- Work closely with outsourced SOC/SIEM providers and wider infrastructure teams.
Required Experience
- Strong hands-on background in enterprise networking and security environments.
- Proven experience with: Juniper LAN switching, Juniper SRX firewalls, Palo Alto firewalls.
- Previous line management or team leadership experience, including managing small engineering teams.
- Experience working with EDR and SIEM technologies.
- Solid understanding of enterprise networking best practices and operational processes.
- Comfortable operating within multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience managing or mentoring 2–4 direct reports.
- Exposure to cloud networking environments and modern infrastructure platforms.
Environment & Technology Stack
- Existing Cisco-based infrastructure with Meraki wireless estate.
- Ongoing migration to Juniper networking hardware as part of a wider refresh programme.
- Windows and Ubuntu-based infrastructure hosted primarily on Nutanix / AHV platforms.
- Outsourced SOC/SIEM services utilising Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and Splunk.
- Darktrace Email security and Nessus vulnerability scanning tools.
