We are looking to recruit a Plant Mechanic who will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy machinery and equipment used in industries such as mining, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing. The role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring the efficient operation of equipment to minimise downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repairs: Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in plant machinery.
- Perform routine servicing and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment longevity.
- Replace faulty parts, including engines, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and braking components.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and manuals to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Provide recommendations on repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Equipment Installation & Upgrades: Assist in the installation of new machinery and ensure correct setup.
- Upgrade components to improve performance and efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct risk assessments before performing maintenance tasks.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance work and equipment inspections.
- Inventory & Reporting: Maintain records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
- Order spare parts and manage stock levels to prevent delays in repairs.
- Report equipment performance issues and suggest improvements.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience: A proven track record with experience working with heavy machinery (construction, mining, or agricultural equipment).
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and welding equipment.
- Soft Skills: Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
