A position for a Technical Director role based in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire has become available, with a leading UK supplier and distributor of electronic components and value-added technical solutions. We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established electronics distribution and technology solutions business that works with world-leading manufacturers across custom batteries, power supplies, semiconductors, displays, electromechanical components, IoT devices, microcontrollers, PCBs and EV charging solutions.
The Technical Director job will report directly to the CEO and sit as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), leading the technical team while driving product strategy, design funnel growth, supplier engagement, and technical sales support across the Group.
Ideal candidates for the Technical Director job will have experience in the following areas:
- Leading and developing technical and/or sales teams, including coaching, performance management and recruitment.
- Managing a sustainable design funnel and converting projects into design wins and production business.
- Creating and implementing product strategies that support sales growth and market share objectives.
- Working closely with Sales, Account Management and Purchasing teams to maximise commercial opportunities and maintain profitable margins.
- Developing strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders at a senior level.
- Managing supplier growth plans, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and identifying opportunities for new franchise partnerships.
- Providing technical support throughout the product design cycle, from evaluation and testing through to production and long-term customer support.
- Driving KPIs, reporting performance metrics to SMT and Board level, and ensuring high levels of team performance.
- Acting as the technical expert within a designated technology sector and identifying emerging market trends and technologies.
- Supporting marketing activities including webinars, exhibitions, social media campaigns and supplier-focused promotional activities.
The successful candidate will ideally possess:
- Extensive knowledge and expertise within a relevant electronics technology area.
- Experience within electronics distribution, franchise distribution, or electronic component sales.
- A strong commercial mindset with the ability to drive revenue growth and design-win activity.
- Experience working directly with OEM customers and supporting product design-in activities.
- An Electronics or Engineering degree, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
