Excellent opportunity for a Senior Product Safety Engineer to join a growing specialist engineering organisation delivering advanced defence and maritime technology solutions. This is a key technical leadership role focused on ensuring products and systems are safe, compliant and certifiable throughout the project lifecycle. Working within the Supportability Engineering team, you will act as the focal point for Product and System Safety Assurance across a diverse portfolio of programmes, supporting the delivery of complex engineering solutions for defence customers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead Product and System Safety Assurance activities across bids, projects and programmes
  • Develop and implement Safety Management Systems and Safety Management Plans
  • Conduct detailed Safety Analysis, Risk Evaluation and Safety Case development
  • Lead Hazard Identification and Analysis activities, maintaining comprehensive Hazard Logs
  • Carry out Safety Risk Assessments to support compliance and Safety Case management
  • Produce technical reports, safety documentation and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide Safety Engineering input into bids and proposals, including effort estimation and work package definition
  • Manage the delivery of internal and subcontracted safety activities
  • Support the integration of product safety considerations throughout the engineering design process
  • Lead and participate in Safety Working Groups with customers, suppliers and project teams
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, regulations and industry standards

Key skills & requirements:

  • Proven Product Safety Engineering experience within complex engineering systems
  • Strong background in Safety Analysis, Risk Assessment and Safety Case development
  • Experience leading Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis activities
  • Good understanding of Product Safety standards and regulations, including Def Stan 00-056, DSA02-DMR and IEC 61508
  • Knowledge of CE and UKCA compliance requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience managing and mentoring technical teams
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or a related discipline
  • Must be a Sole UK National
  • Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC minimum, DV preferred)
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable experience:

  • Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership
  • Previous experience within the Defence or Maritime sectors
