Job Description

Costs Lawyer / Costs Draftsman – Personal Injury

Location: Cardiff (once a week hybrid)

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Hours: 35 hours, Monday – Friday,9am – 5pm

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitiousCosts Lawyer to join usin our Cardiff office as part of our growing Personal Injury team. Thesuccessful candidate will work with a high degree of autonomy to deliverspecialist costs support across a varied caseload, while also helping shape anddevelop our costs function in collaboration with colleagues across the firm.

Candidates should be aware that their firstday of employment may be based at an alternative Redkite office within ournetwork, for group onboarding. A willingness to travel and spend the day awayfrom your usual place of work is therefore required.

What WillYou Be Doing?

  • Manage a varied caseload of costs matters acrossPersonal Injury and Clinical Negligence claims, supporting cases from budgetingthrough to recovery.
  • Prepare Bills of Costs, Costs Budgets(Precedent H), Budget Discussion Reports (Precedent R), Precedent S documents,and other key costs-related documentation.
  • Draft and respond to Points of Dispute and Pointsof Reply, ensuring compliance with CPR, case law, and costs managementprotocols.
  • Negotiate costs settlements with opponents, thirdparties, and costs firms, while advising fee earners and partners on costsstrategy and recovery.
  • Attend Detailed Assessment hearings and CCMCswhere required, including preparing hearing bundles, statements of costs, andsupporting documentation.
  • Provide guidance and support to colleagues on costsissues and best practices, while contributing to training, reporting, and thecontinuous development of costs processes across the firm.

Requirements

Who We’reLooking For:

  • Qualified CostsLawyer and experience handling costs matters within Personal Injury andClinical Negligence claims.
  • Strong technical knowledge of costs law and procedure,including costs budgeting, detailed assessment, dispute resolution, andrecovery processes, with excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Confident advising fee earners and stakeholders on costsstrategy, with strong communication skills and the ability to build effectiveworking relationships across the firm.
  • Experience using costs software and case managementsystems, with familiarity with Costs Master considered advantageous.
  • Proactive, organised, and self-motivated, with a keen eyefor detail and the ability to contribute to the growth and development of acosts function.
