Our solutions solve complex database management challenges across the DevOps lifecycle, making life easier for IT leaders, development, and operations teams by increasing efficiency, reducing errors, and protecting business‑critical data. The data community trusts Redgate to balance speed to market, team collaboration, and data protection.
Lead a team. Shape a product. Make an impact. We are looking for a Technical Lead to join one of our Redgate Monitor teams, someone who can balance team and people leadership with technical credibility, and who is energised by helping engineers grow while delivering software that matters. Redgate Monitor is our flagship monitoring solution, trusted by thousands of organisations worldwide to proactively monitor, diagnose, and optimise their database environments. It’s a mature, high‑impact product with real scale and complexity.
Your primary responsibility is leading a team to deliver features customers love, and you will do this by setting clear direction, removing obstacles, and ensuring your team can do their best work. Your success is measured by what your team ships and the value it creates.
The Role
As a Technical Lead, you will lead a team of 4–5 engineers, including a Lead Software Engineer and Software Engineers at various levels. You will work closely with a dedicated Product Manager and Product Designer who are part of your team leadership group. You will also be supported by a Group Engineering Manager (who oversees delivery, people, and processes across the Monitor group), an Architect (who provides technical direction at the product level), and a coaching function to help you navigate challenges. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, team leadership, and technical leadership. You will spend meaningful time in code and in technical discussions, but your primary impact comes from how you support your team to do their best work —setting direction, removing obstacles, and helping engineers do their best work.
What We Are Looking For
- Essential
- Delivery focus: You are accountable for your team’s delivery. You can estimate and communicate progress, manage competing priorities, and actively remove distractions and low‑impact work. You know when to solve problems within the team and when to escape.
- Customer and business awareness: You engage with users to understand their needs, and you share those insights with the team. You understand how Redgate Monitor fits into the broader market and build relationships with other functions (Sales, Marketing, Support) that contribute to product success.
- Team leadership: You make goals clear and build consensus around them. You promote agile, lean ways of working and foster continuous improvement. You can break down team objectives into fast experiments that deliver incremental value.
- People leadership: You have been a people manager to engineers, run regular 1:1s, supported career development, and navigated performance challenges. You adapt your leadership style to the person and situation—knowing when to direct, guide, support, or coach.
- Technical foundation: You have worked as a software engineer and have solid understanding of modern object‑oriented languages. Our stack includes .NET/C#, React/TypeScript, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
- Collaborative growth mindset: You work effectively across disciplines—with product managers, designers, and engineers alike. You create psychological safety in your team, ensuring people feel comfortable expressing ideas, raising concerns, and challenging each other constructively. You are comfortable working with senior decision‑makers, and you can challenge and influence effectively.
- Experience with monitoring, observability, or performance tooling.
- Familiarity with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Experience with database security or IT security products, with an understanding of the challenges around securing IT environments.
A note on balance
Technical Leads at Redgate vary—some are stronger on the team leadership, people leadership, others on the technical. We value both profiles. What matters is that you are credible in all dimensions and honest about where you want to grow.
