The Opportunity
We are working with a highly respected agronomy-service business seeking an ambitious agronomist who wants to learn from the ground up and progress rapidly into a senior leadership role. You will pair with a senior member of their agronomy team, gaining hands-on experience in crop consultation, soil and nutrient management, precision farming, and grower relationship management. Within 2-4 years (subject to performance) you will transition into a full Senior Agronomist position with your own grower portfolio and autonomy.
What you’ll do
- Work alongside the senior agronomist to visit growers’ farms, assess crop and soil health, monitor pest/disease threats, and recommend agronomy programmes.
- Support the development and implementation of crop nutrition, crop protection, variety selection and rotational strategies that improve yield, quality and profitability for clients.
- Analyse field and lab data (soil tests, tissue analysis, yield results) to inform agronomic decision-making.
- Aid in the roll-out of precision farming and digital agronomy tools, explore new crop/tech options and translate agronomic insight into business value.
- Build strong relationships with growers, internal technical teams, product suppliers and operational staff; communicate agronomy plans in clear practical terms.
- As you progress: take ownership of a grower portfolio, lead trials, shape and deliver agronomic strategy and mentor more junior staff.
What we’re looking for
- Educated to degree level in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture or related subject (or equivalent practical experience).
- A strong interest and some experience in agronomy, crop production or farming environment – ideally with exposure to arable cropping systems.
- Analytical mindset, good comfort with data interpretation, agronomy software or digital tools; able to apply science into practice.
- Excellent communication and people-skills; you will be out in the field working directly with growers and internal stakeholders.
- Self-driven, curious about new agronomy approaches/innovation, not afraid of working in varied environments, willing to get stuck-in.
- Full driving licence (field travel required) and willingness to travel regionally during the season.
What’s in it for you
- A clear, fast-track development path: from associate agronomist to full senior agronomist within 2-4 years based on performance.
- Exposure to a broad agronomy remit: soil health, crop nutrition, crop protection, precision farming and business consulting.
- Mentorship from senior agronomy professionals in a business committed to technical excellence and grower outcomes.
- A varied role: field visits, lab/office analysis, grower consultations, strategic planning and implementation.
- Competitive salary, benefits, and opportunity to shape your own agronomy portfolio and influence business direction.
The Ideal Candidate
If you are ambitious, enjoy combining practical work with science, want to build your agronomy career at pace and are ready for challenge and impact, this is your role. You should relish being in the field, learning fast, working with growers and being part of a progressive agronomy business that prizes technical rigour and innovation.
