Job Introduction
Care & Support Worker
Grade 4: £27,254 to £29,540 per annum, pro‑rata
Part time: 23 hours per week
Situated in North Worcestershire, Redditch Borough Council manages St David’s House and Queens Cottages, an Extra Care Housing Scheme providing accommodation and support to 54 properties living independently in flats or bungalows within the scheme.
This role works closely with the wider team to contribute fully to the provision of personal care, support, wellbeing and housing‑related services designed to enhance quality of life for tenants in line with their assessed needs. The role supports and encourages people to remain as independent as possible within their own homes.
Responsibilities
- Carry out duties in line with relevant legislation, regulations, Council policies and contractual requirements.
- Provide day‑to‑day support to tenants as part of a caring, integrated team, liaising with colleagues and partner services where required.
- Assist tenants with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming and promoting dignity at all times.
- Support with household tasks including light domestic duties, laundry and maintaining a safe living environment.
- Prepare and serve meals at appropriate times, supporting nutrition and hydration needs.
- Administer and record medication, including oral and topical medication, in line with policy and competency requirements.
- Provide emotional support, reassurance and promote wellbeing.
- Observe changes in health or wellbeing and report concerns appropriately.
- Contribute to care planning and make recommendations to families, healthcare professionals and managers where appropriate.
- Organise and support suitable recreational and social activities to reduce isolation and promote independence.
- Work collaboratively with health and social care professionals to ensure tenants receive the best possible support.
- Respond to emergency calls when on duty, assess the situation and take appropriate action, including contacting senior staff or emergency services where necessary.
- Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required by the service.
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of criminal records via the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. This will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions.
