Overview
In this role you lead the technical direction for a client pod within a London-based headless ecommerce studio. You shape solutions with strategy and design, guide delivery, and stay close to the code while engaging directly with clients. You balance hands-on development with team leadership, ensuring scalable, high-quality outcomes. This position offers practical client-facing tech leadership in a collaborative, engineering-driven environment that values problem-solving over tool-driven hype.

Responsibilities
- Define and shape the technical solution with strategy and design collaboration
- Manage client conversations about approaches, timelines, and budgets
- Own planning and delivery: backlog, roadmap, estimations, sprints, risks
- Lead one to four engineers per project: code reviews, mentoring, quality standards
- Contribute hands-on when needed and maintain awareness of code feasibility
- Oversee quality and technical debt: reviews, testing, monitoring, improvements
Key requirements
- 5+ years in a similar role with agency experience
- Headless ecommerce experience essential, Shopify Plus in headless setups
- Fluent in modern JavaScript (vanilla, React, Vue, Svelte)
- Comfort with agile delivery, CI/CD, and consuming REST APIs
- Strong back-end grounding; client-facing technical leadership
- AI experience or willingness to start using AI in engineering
