Lead Backend Engineer

Working for a consumer services scale-up with over 20 million customers, the Lead Backend Engineer will lead the technical direction of the backend and manage a team of talented engineers.

The company is continuing to scale internationally, building on the great success they’ve had in the U.K.

The Lead Backend Engineer will be responsible for:

• Owning the design and development of robust, scalable backend services
• Spearheading the technical direction of the backend
• Managing a team of engineers
• Contributing to overarching technology strategy
• Transitioning some legacy code to more modern microservices

The Lead Backend Engineer will have:

• Experience in line management and technical leadership of backend
• Hands on coding experience with PHP and Go / Golang (other languages are a bonus)
• Strong technical understanding of, and having built, API’s
• Good communication skills and stakeholder management
• Could come from a startup / scale-up or corporate background
• Candidates could be from roles like Engineering Manager, Engineering Lead, Technical Lead or Head of Engineering, etc.
