Overview

We are supporting a major global energy organisation in scaling advanced AI capability across its Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) business supporting teams across Europe and the US. We are looking for Lead AI Engineers with strong, hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying production-grade GenAI and agentic AI solutions within enterprise environments. This is a delivery-focused engineering role, not a traditional data science or research-led position. The client is specifically seeking individuals who have successfully implemented real-world AI systems that support business operations and commercial decision-making. The successful candidates will work closely with trading and commercial stakeholders to develop practical AI-driven solutions within a fast-paced, iterative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy production-grade GenAI / LLM / agentic AI solutions
  • Develop scalable AI workflows and integrations aligned to business use cases
  • Work directly with trading and commercial users to translate requirements into practical AI solutions
  • Build and maintain AI orchestration, evaluation, and monitoring capabilities
  • Integrate AI services with enterprise systems, APIs, and data pipelines
  • Support rapid prototyping and iterative delivery of AI functionality
  • Contribute to architecture, tooling, and engineering best practices across AI delivery

Required Experience

  • Strong hands-on AI engineering experience focused on GenAI, LLMs, and agentic AI systems
  • Proven experience deploying AI solutions into live production environments
  • Deep practical understanding of modern AI tooling and frameworks
  • Experience with agent frameworks, orchestration, evaluation methodologies, and AI workflow design
  • Strong Python engineering capability
  • Experience building APIs, integrations, and scalable data pipelines
  • Comfortable working in cloud-native and containerised environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving delivery environments

Highly Desirable

  • Experience within commodities, trading, front-office, or market-facing environments
  • Energy or oil & gas industry exposure
  • Experience supporting globally distributed teams across UK and US time zones

Important Context

The client has already screened a number of candidates with strong theoretical or traditional ML/data science backgrounds who lacked depth in production-grade GenAI delivery. This role requires candidates with genuine hands-on experience implementing enterprise AI systems in real-world environments. Candidates with primarily academic, experimental, or early-stage AI exposure are unlikely to be suitable.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Production deployment of GenAI / LLM / agentic AI systems
  • Strong engineering and integration capability
  • Practical experience with AI orchestration and evaluation
  • Ability to engage directly with business stakeholders
  • Delivery-focused mindset with strong commercial awareness
