Overview
A secondment opportunity is available for a Transport Manager (Operational), based at Fairway House. The role will be to work on Monday and Fridays (2 days per week), initially for a 12 month secondment with potential for extension.
Responsibilities
- Leading the day-to-day operations of the busy School Transport Service
- Manage the team of Transport Support Officers, Drivers and Escorts who oversee the day-to-day operation of school transport, courier service and adult day care services.
- Constantly review service delivery to ensure cost effective, efficient and safe delivery of School Transport routes in line with transport policies
- Deal with enquiries, service requests or complaints relating to all aspects of operational transport service delivery, from schools, colleges, parents, taxi providers, internal teams/other agencies.
- Ensuring all transport practices and processes are in place to meet legislative requirements
- Commissioning external transport with providers and managing those external relationships
- Managing the transport fleet operations, from logistics, route planning, vehicle movement and demand management
- Ensuring all relevant driver compliance and training in place
- Address any safeguarding issues/concerns raised in relation to school transport, working closely with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) on Safeguarding incidents.
What should the postholder offer?
- Have excellent written and verbal communication and IT skills
- The ability to organise and continually prioritise conflicting demands.
- Proven experience in leading and managing a team of staff.
- A calm and methodical approach when dealing with challenging issues.
- Ability to problem solve, implement creative solutions, work under pressure and manage conflicting demands
- Knowledge of the borough would be an advantage
