In this role, you will empower children and young people to have a meaningful voice in the services they receive, ensuring their perspectives shape the care and support provided. You will develop and deliver the Participation Strategy to ensure that the services delivered by the Children and Families Directorate are meeting children’s needs and are based on their lived experiences. You will work with services across the department to ensure that they are using children and young people’s lived experiences to improve their services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engagement & Consultation: Develop and implement strategies to engage children and young people in decision-making processes.
  • Facilitation: Organise and lead forums, workshops, and focus groups to gather feedback and promote active participation.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Social Care teams and practitioners to integrate young people’s views into service planning and delivery.
  • Advocacy: Support children and young people in expressing their views and ensure their voices are heard in relevant settings.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track participation activities and outcomes, providing regular reports to senior management.

About You:

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about children’s rights and has:

  • Experience: Proven experience in working with children and young people, particularly in a social care or educational setting.
  • Skills: Strong communication, relationship building, facilitation, and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of child development, safeguarding, and the importance of participation in social care.
  • Values: Commitment to the principles of relationship based practice, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of children and young people.
