We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Educational Psychologist to join our team until July 2026. This opportunity has arisen as our current post-holder has successfully secured a place on the Doctorate in Educational Psychology to train as an Educational Psychologist.
This is an exciting chance to apply psychology in creative and meaningful ways to support children and young people in schools across Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
You will play a key role in delivering our transition programme across Redcar and Cleveland, with a particular focus on supporting children and families through the transition from primary to secondary school. Working with pupils in Years 5 to 7 who have been identified as having special educational needs and who may be particularly vulnerable during this period of change, you will support both individuals and small groups of children to develop key social and emotional skills, build confidence, and promote emotional wellbeing.
The role will include the delivery of targeted 1:1 and group interventions, focusing on areas such as social communication, anxiety, and emotional regulation. You will also support parents and carers in preparing their children for secondary school, collaborate with school staff to develop inclusive and effective transition strategies, and contribute to consultation and training where appropriate. In addition, you will contribute to the creation of resources and guidance for schools, students, and families, helping to embed good practice. Participation in working groups aimed at reviewing and improving our processes is also expected.
You will work closely with another Assistant Educational Psychologist already in post, enabling a collaborative and supportive team dynamic. Regular supervision and guidance will be provided by an experienced Educational Psychologist, ensuring that you are well-supported in your professional development throughout the role.
We welcome applications from individuals who are creative, reflective, and committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people. You will hold a degree in Psychology (2:1 or above), or have completed a BPS-accredited conversion or Master’s course, making you eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
You will have varied experience of working with children, young people, and families, demonstrating a clear understanding of their needs and the importance of inclusive, person-centred support.
This post may be considered as a secondment opportunity, subject to agreement with your current employer.
The successful candidate will require transport to fulfil their duties and will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Kathryn Bailey, Educational Psychologist, at kathryn.bailey@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk
