Calling Women Cyclists – Northumbria University
Dr Sarah Allen of Northumbria University is looking for women cyclists to take part in a new study exploring the relationship between cycling and wellbeing. Researchers at Northumbria University are conducting a project to better understand how different types of cycling—such as outdoor rides and virtual cycling platforms like Zwift—influence day‑to‑day wellbeing in women. Your experiences could help build valuable evidence about the psychological benefits of cycling.
What the Study Is About
Cycling is widely recognised for its physical health benefits, but researchers are increasingly interested in its impact on mood, stress levels, and overall mental wellbeing. This study aims to explore how different cycling environments and habits affect how participants feel in their daily lives. By taking part, you’ll help researchers gain a deeper understanding of how cycling contributes to wellbeing and help shape future research in this area.
Who Can Take Part?
- Identify as a woman
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Cycle at least twice per week
What Participation Involves
- Fill in a daily diary for 14 days. Each diary entry will ask about your cycling activity and mood for that day. Diary links will be sent to you via email.
- Complete an online questionnaire at the start of the study.
This study and its protocol has received full ethical approval from Northumbria University College of Reviewers (Ref: 11214).
