This is an ideal opportunity for a qualified legal professional, who can bring expert knowledge of Commercial, Property and Planning law. You’ll provide strategic legal advice to elected members and senior officers, supporting informed decision-making, effective governance and a proactive approach to identifying and managing risk.
You’ll be part of the Legal Services Senior Leadership Team, working collaboratively to ensure a cohesive and value-for-money legal service across all aspects of the Council’s work. You’ll lead and manage the Commercial Legal Services team, fostering a commitment to high quality work, while supporting the professional development of others to build our internal capacity and expertise.
You can expect to take the lead on a caseload of complex legal matters/high priority and/or sensitive cases, while continuing to quality assure the work of your team – ensuring alignment of resources to the delivery of agreed service plans and corporate priorities.
You should be a qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent) with practical post qualification experience in Commercial, Property and Planning law. It’s important that you bring a good understanding of the local government legislative framework and that you have a well-developed appreciation of the role of a professional advisor within a political setting.
You should be confident in your ability to manage complex and high-risk legal matters and be able to draw on both your professional expertise and your ability to foster positive relationships to ensure your advice and contribution is effective.
