Redbridge is one of the most dynamic and diverse boroughs in London. It’s also a place of great contrast – where fantastic opportunities and deeply rooted challenges persist. It’s this complexity that makes this role such a great professional opportunity. It’s your chance to make a real impact and see real, tangible outcomes in improving quality of life for our community.

With a remit that includes Community Safety Partnerships, Prevent, Neighbourhood Enforcement and Emergency Planning you will play a central role in leading and co-ordinating the work of a talented and committed team – dedicated to making our borough a safer place to live, work or visit.

Partnership working is absolutely central to this role. Influence, advocacy and negotiation will all be essential elements of your work. You will advise and persuade decision-makers across different organisations on all issues pertaining to community safety, highlighting areas of risk and how to mitigate these, and ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice. It’s a role that requires resilience and tenacity, and a readiness to speak truth to power when required.

Your professional knowledge of community safety issues will be fundamental to success in the role. But we are also looking for a highly effective manager of people and resources; someone who understands commissioning and contract management; and who can identify and realise grant funding opportunities to support services. You should have a sophisticated appreciation of working in partnership and the importance of listening to others’ views as well as being a passionate advocate for our priorities.

In such a visible role, you can expect high levels of scrutiny and attention, so it’s important that you can work well in a political environment. This is a role that offers something special – a chance to work with a team who are passionate about what they do, in a borough where this agenda really matters. Expect to be inspired and challenged every day; and to see the difference you can make.
