Head of Estates in City of London

City of London Full-Time On-site

There is a lot going on in Redbridge right now. Ambitious regeneration plans will transform how the borough looks and feels and help to create greater economic opportunities for our residents. And we are reshaping our organisation to be better equipped to have the greatest impact for our community. Momentum is building and there is a renewed sense of purpose within the Council that has the potential to achieve great things. This is your chance to be part of a new management team with a mandate for change and a shared sense of purpose.

This is new role in the organisation, created to bring greater strategic and operational oversight to our Estates function - working across the Council's commercial property portfolio and the corporate estate. A strategic asset review is already underway, and you will have the opportunity to develop this work into a fully developed asset management strategy that maximises the use of council properties and sites in terms of commercial return and establishing a more efficient and modern council estate.

You'll bring clear and focused leadership to a small team, shaping a more systematic approach to estate management and ensuring that active performance management creates opportunity for progression and builds capacity and expertise from within. Current and accurate data will be a vital tool in demonstrating and reporting on impact. Commercial awareness and financial rigour will be fundamental to maximising returns from our property portfolio - but you should also be attuned to the social and community benefits that will be key to decision-making around how we use our assets.

It's important that you can work with your peers across the Council too - identifying how your team's work can support and influence in other areas such as regeneration, commercial opportunities and other revenue collection services.

We expect that you hold a relevant professional qualification (RICS) and that you already have experience of strategic oversight of a commercial portfolio, alongside people and resource management responsibilities.

You'll discover that this is a very diverse role, where your expertise and experience can quickly identify improvement opportunities and make a measurable impact.
