Responsible To: Niall McLaughlin, Operations Manager

Status: 45 hours per week (8am to 5.15pm daily - Monday to Friday)

Pay: Up to £18 per hour, depending on experience

Location: Redbay Boats Limited, 1 Gortaclee Road, Cushendall, Co. Antrim, BT44 OTE

Main Area of Responsibility: This position will involve working closely under the guidance of highly experienced fitters and boat builders. The successful candidate will be expected to learn established methods, techniques and standards that are specific to Redbay Boats. Given the nature of our work, the standard of finish is critical. Much of what is fitted remains visible and accessible to the customer, meaning a consistently high standard of workmanship, neatness and attention to detail is essential from the outset. We are open to applicants at all levels and are particularly keen to hear from people with practical experience on the tools in electrical or construction trades. Full in-house training will be provided on all elements of the job, so a lack of marine experience need not rule you out. The key requirement is attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to meet Redbay standards.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Install, route and terminate wiring looms, electrical systems, navigation equipment and electronics.
  • Fit and commission inboard and outboard engines, including controls, steering and fuel systems.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting of components, fixtures and fittings across the boat.
  • Assist with general boat building tasks, including the assembly and installation of consoles, seating, deck hardware and ancillary equipment.
  • Read and work from drawings, schematics and build specifications.
  • Learn and apply Redbay Boats' established methods, techniques and quality standards.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of workmanship, neatness and finish.
  • Carry out testing and fault-finding on completed installations under supervision.
  • Keep tools, equipment and the work area clean, organised and safe.
  • Work flexibly across the production team and support colleagues as required.

Personnel Specification - Minimum Requirements:

  • Practical, hands-on experience on the tools preferred, ideally within the electrical, mechanical or construction trades.
  • Competent and confident in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, reliable, punctual and safety conscious.
  • Marine or boat building experience is desirable, but not essential.
