To support the growth of Lonely Planet’s iconic guidebooks, we are seeking the help of a freelance Design Researcher. Working closely with our Guidebook Development Editor, you will conduct hands-on design research, as well as analysing the wealth of third-party data available. This is a freelance position. We anticipate needing freelance support for at least 6 months, with the possibility of extending.

What You\’ll Do

  • Create a programme of research designed to improve Lonely Planet’s guidebook sales
  • Test content, designs and products as they are prototyped to ensure they meet consumer needs and will drive growth
  • Conduct quant and qual research on users and non-users to find out how Lonely Planet can best position its product for success
  • Create briefs for the book product team on how to improve existing product, and launch suitable product to new demographics based on consumer insight
  • Analyze the wealth of third-party data published in both the travel and book industries to ensure Lonely Planet books remain competitive and on-trend

What We\’re Looking For

  • Freelancer looking to form a deep relationship with Lonely Planet
  • 3+ years of relevant design research or UX experience
  • Hands-on experience in quantitative survey and qualitative / design consumer research
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, communication and influencing skills
  • Track record of contributing to demonstrable business growth
  • Intellectual curiosity in ever-changing travel and media landscapes to stay abreast of industry trends and changing consumer needs
  • A scrappy approach – sourcing fast, cost-effective recommendations

Rate

£250 per diem, to be invoiced fortnightly
