We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to work for a small, well established company based in Central Newbury. This is an 'all round' role where no two days will be the same. The role is to deliver high quality, reliable software that meets both the business and customers’ needs. This includes interpreting specifications and developing applications in an agreed time frame. The role is also expected to maintain the software and documentation and provide 3rd level support to colleagues and customers who use and support the software.
Please note the company will expect you to work on site 5 days a week in Central Newbury (near the train station) and there is no free parking available.
Essential experience required:- Minimum of 5 years experience developing production applications using Java
- Minimum of 3 years experience of SQL
- Developing web applications and RESTful APIs - using modern web technologies
- Jakarta EE or similar enterprise Java frameworks
- Modern development environments such as IntelliJ, Eclipse or similar IDEs
- Version control systems such as Git in a collaborative development environment
- Relational and document databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB or SQLite
- Designing and implementing database schemas, queries and data access layers
- Designing and developing modular, maintainable software systems
- System and unit testing processes
- Maintaining, extending and refactoring existing production systems
- Reviewing and improving existing codebases
- Conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback
- Guiding and advising junior developers
