About the Role
We are seeking a caring, compassionate and reliable Teaching Assistant to join our secondary school in East London, providing dedicated support to students who require intimate care and personal assistance throughout the school day.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting students' dignity, wellbeing, independence and access to education.
This is a rewarding position for someone who is patient, respectful and confident working with young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide sensitive and respectful intimate care and personal support to students in accordance with individual care plans and school procedures.
- Assist students with personal hygiene, toileting, changing and other intimate care needs where required.
- Support students with mobility and physical needs, including safe transfers and positioning.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals to ensure students' individual needs are met.
- Promote students' independence, dignity and wellbeing at all times.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain accurate records relating to care and support where required.
- Provide general classroom and learning support as appropriate.
Essential Requirements
- A valid Manual Handling Certificate is essential.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, physical disabilities or intimate care requirements is highly desirable.
- A caring, patient and respectful approach.
- Confidence supporting students with personal and physical care needs.
- Understanding of the importance of dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Willingness to follow individual care plans and school policies.
