We are recruiting for a Technical Design Engineer (CAD Tooling) to work with our London based client on a permanent basis. Working within the Industrial Operations department, you will be part of the Industrialization team. As a Technical Design Engineer (CAD Tooling), you will be responsible for the definition and design of new tooling and equipment to simplify the assembly of Optical/Electrical products in production whilst maintaining quality and reliability.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
- Engineering degree or equivalent (mechanical, industrial, production).
- Experience working on Creo CAD package.
- Experience in a technical and/or manufacturing environment.
- Sound practical experience with Excel and Word.
- FMEA software experience (beneficial).
- NPI experience & 3D print design experience (beneficial).
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Work closely with SED/R&D to ensure products are designed for ease of manufacturing and produced reliably and performs consistently.
- Evaluate prototype parts/assembly of new designs and provide feedback to SED/R&D on various issues to aid assembly procedure and tooling design.
- Design tooling and equipment required to simplify the assembly of the product.
- Propose alternative tooling solutions to address various assembly requirements, improve and automate the assembly process.
- Design tooling using Creo CAD package to the required specification for quotation, manufacture and 3D modelling. Use of Creo CAD package in line with company procedure.
- Perform Load and Stress analysis, engineering calculations and component and material selection and validation.
- Design within BS and ISO standards.
- Perform Tooling Design reviews with stakeholders. Prepare presentation and reports for the design reviews.
- Sourcing of external equipment to aid and improve production operations.
- Working with Tooling Manufacturers to answer any technical questions promptly and professionally. Ensuring on time delivery of tooling.
- Inspection of new tooling upon delivery to ensure conformance with drawing specification.
- Performing tooling validation and validation documentation (Plan, report, ITS, pictures, videos).
- Provide Lifting Equipment Design/technical documentation in line with Health and Safety standards.
- Understand and comply with the clean area environmental rules. Adhere to mandatory Quality and Safety procedures, including build documentation, ESD, Risk assessments, COSHH and Manual Handling regulations.
- Define the calibration period & inspection requirement for each tooling. Maintain in-house maintenance databases where applicable. Ensure that Maintenance requirements, spare parts strategy/information, TPM are recorded and released to manufacturing.
- Performing DFMEA, RA (machine/tooling/equipment), PUWER assessments.
- Training of Operators/Trainers in the use of new tooling and build processes.
- Attends products New Process Introduction (NPI) and New Product Introduction meetings and provide inputs into the minutes. Provide reports or meeting minutes.
- Ensures assembly tooling documentation is approved and released on time and that tooling/equipment are procured and validated/commissioned as per company standard to meet development and production plans.
- Perform investigations and Root Causes analysis for the tooling defects. Implement improvements and poka-yoke solutions to eliminate defects in the future.
- Constantly reviews and analyses production processes and tooling to improve efficiency, quality, HSE, down time, reject rates and reduce standard times and cost.
- Conducts production processes audits on tooling procedures to ensure all are compliant.
- Leads/participates in a variety of Kaizen projects to reduce waste, improve standard build times and reduce production cost.
