We are recruiting for an Electronics Design Engineer (Power Electronics) to join our London-based manufacturing client for a 6-month rolling contract role inside IR35 (through umbrella). As an Electronics Design Engineer (Power Electronics), your overall objective of the role is design, development, qualification, and documentation of hardware for Power Feeding Equipment (PFE) product. The Electronics Design Engineer (Power Electronics) contributes to the HV side of multidisciplinary PFE engineering teams throughout feasibility, architecture, and detailed design phases, as well as product maintenance and support, while ensuring adherence to industry standards and meeting customer expectations.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
- Degree in electrical/electronic engineering; at least 8 years of experience.
- Must have end to end HW product development experience involving complex electronics with deep knowledge and strong hands-on experience in:
- Power electronics (DC-DC converters up to 5kW, HVDC systems).
- High-voltage engineering (design, validation, standards compliance).
- Thermal/mechanical integration for high-power systems.
- Experience in electronics design within a regulated environment.
- Candidate must have designed & released to Mfg. any 50/400VDC to 3-5kV DC/1.5A, DC-DC converters or similar high-power converter with hands-on experience.
- Must have hands-on experience in high voltage electronics development engineering, power converters, power electronics, closed-loop control systems and SMPS stability analysis.
- Must have personally designed a DC-DC converter above 3kV output.
- Must have worked in a regulated hardware development environment (ISO9001, TL9000, or similar).
- Strong grounding in core electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Proven ability to approach new or unconventional problems from first principles.
- High level of autonomy and ownership in previous roles.
- Experience working in environments where solutions are not predefined.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Product development within the following Electrical/Electronic engineering disciplines:
- Conceptualization, design, development and validation of LV and HV subsystems used in the PFE such as power converters, High Voltage circuits as per Product and system requirements.
- Power converters (DC-DC HVDC topologies, high-efficiency designs).
- High-voltage circuits (e.g., precision high-side current/voltage measurement).
- Thermal management solutions (mechanical/electronics integration for heat dissipation).
- HV clearance/creepage assessments (per IEC).
- HV switches.
Technical execution of PFE Hardware from design to qualification:
- End to end ownership of design as per agreed functionality of the product and system specifications.
- Ensure development standards and processes are adhered to as per organization QMS standards such as ISO and TL9000.
- Conduct feasibility studies.
- FMEA/Risk analysis.
- Environmental conditions and EMC.
- Compliance with product safety standard IEC.
- Reliability, availability & lifetime.
- Manufacturability & testability (DFx).
- Cost.
- Generation of requirement to design specifications, schematics, test plan, test reports, and manufacturing information as required.
