Our client, based in Cork, are recruiting for a Marine Superintendent. As a Marine Superintendent you will be responsible for the safety, quality, and environmental performance of assigned vessels, ensuring full compliance with international regulations, company standards, and Safety Management Systems.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
- Previous experience working as an HSEQ or Marine Superintendent (desirable).
- Seagoing background as a Chief Officer or Master (Holding Class 1 or Class 2 licence).
- Experience with vessel inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing safety systems, conducting risk assessments, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to travel for vessel visits.
- Full and unrestricted right to live and work in Republic of Ireland.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Assist with the preparation, review & control of Safety Management System Documents and assist the Marine Manager with any of his/her duties/responsibilities as necessary.
- Review and reply to the Masters review of the SMS.
- Deputise for the DPA as and when required.
- Reply to all safety correspondence received from vessels, i.e. Safety meeting minutes, general queries, etc.
- Maintain the monthly safety statistics.
- Carry out vessel inspections (audits) to ensure ISM, ISPS, and industry best practice are followed. Produce appropriate reports detailing any non-conformities and observations found during the audits.
- Conduct internal audits ashore as required.
- To review and assist in closing out deficiencies and non-conformities highlighted during any external audit both on board and within the office.
- To analyse all deficiencies / observations on a regular basis and propose follow up and feedback.
- File any Accident, Hazardous Occurrence, Near Miss Investigation/Analysis and completion of associated reports. Investigate and produce reports of all serious incidents and recommend actions to prevent re-occurrence as requested by Management.
- Assist with the coordination of Emergency Response Drills and Exercises.
- Briefing senior vessel staff attending the office for that purpose.
- Advise on operational matters.
- Monitor the environmental performance of the fleet in conjunction with the Technical Superintendent.
- Monitor general fleet performance against company Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
- Preparation of vessels for Third Party Inspections.
- Maintaining databases / follow up and updating inspections – OVID / IMCA.
- Maintain the vessel certificate files.
- Assist with Ad Hoc projects.
