Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for 2 Vetting Officers to join a busy Professional Standards team based in Birmingham on an initial 16-week temporary contract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills and experience working with confidential information. You'll play a vital role in ensuring robust vetting processes are followed, helping to protect the integrity and professionalism of the police service.
The Role
As a Vetting Officer, you will carry out detailed background checks on individuals applying to work within the police service or for organisations requiring access to police assets. Using police databases and other relevant systems, you'll research and assess information relating to applicants' employment history, financial affairs, associations and other relevant areas to identify potential risks and support informed vetting decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough vetting checks using a range of police systems and databases.
- Assess information to identify potential risks relating to integrity, operational security and public confidence.
- Approve straightforward vetting applications in line with established policies and the National Decision-Making Model.
- Prepare recommendations and supporting information for Vetting Decision Makers.
- Highlight complex or high-risk cases requiring further consideration.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and secure records in accordance with GDPR and Data Protection legislation.
- Liaise with internal departments and external vetting teams where required.
- Support risk assessments relating to vulnerabilities and sensitive intelligence.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience providing excellent customer service, either internally or externally.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- Excellent IT skills and confidence using multiple software systems.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information professionally.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a customer service or administrative environment.
- Previous experience carrying out vetting, compliance or background screening.
- Knowledge or experience of police systems such as PNC, PND or other intelligence systems.
Security Clearance
Successful applicants will be required to obtain Management Vetting (MV) and Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance before starting the role. This includes comprehensive background and financial checks.
