We are recruiting on behalf of our London based client for an Unpaid Work Supervisor supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence.
The role includes site supervision, direct engagement with service users, and driving duties, including transporting equipment and participants using a service vehicle. The successful candidate will work on a variety of community-based projects, visibly contributing to public reparation and supporting service users in gaining work-based experience and training.
Location: North East London; covering Enfield and Haringey, Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Hackney
Contract: at least 6 months - weekend working required
Work hours: 37 hours a week
Salary: £17.19 PAYE or £22.63 Umbrella
Responsibilities
- Supervise work groups of service users serving community sentences across designated project sites.
- Conduct Pre-Placement Induction sessions and daily “tool box” talks to outline expectations, ensure safety protocols are understood, and motivate service users.
- Provide operational oversight of work tasks and participate hands-on where needed to demonstrate good practice.
- Maintain discipline and pro-social behaviour within the group, intervening appropriately and escalating as necessary.
- Carry out dynamic risk assessments daily; adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and contribute to placement risk assessment reviews.
- Monitor and record attendance, behaviour, and task completion; update all case management systems accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and PPE are available, maintained, and used according to health and safety standards.
- Promote positive work ethics, support employability, and deliver or support vocational and skills-based training during placements.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and partner agencies involved in placement projects.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Community Payback through regular service evaluations and feedback.
Person Specification
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and effective collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise individuals constructively while maintaining authority.
- Proven problem-solving skills in a practical or operational setting.
- Knowledge of workplace safety, public protection, and risk of harm principles.
- Ability to model and encourage pro-social behaviour and attitudes in others.
- Good written communication and record-keeping skills.
- Full manual UK driving licence (including Category D1 to drive a minibus).
- Willingness to drive service vehicles and transport people/equipment.
- Basic knowledge of First Aid (training can be provided).
- Willingness to achieve and maintain:
- IOSH Level 3 (or equivalent) Health & Safety certification.
- Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.
