Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Probation Officer on behalf of our client the National Probation Service. As a Probation Officer, you'll be at the frontline of offender management and rehabilitation, working directly with individuals in the community and in custody to support behavioural change, enforce court orders, and protect the public. You'll deliver cognitive and behavioural interventions and manage complex risk cases including sexual and violent offenders. You'll also play a vital role in advising the courts and developing multi-agency safety plans under MAPPA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality risk assessments, pre-sentence reports, and rehabilitation plans
  • Supervise and support offenders in the community, ensuring compliance and promoting behavioural change
  • Prepare prisoners for release and successful resettlement
  • Lead work on serious and high-risk cases through Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA)
  • Provide expert advice to courts and partner agencies, including the Police, Prison Service, and Judiciary
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure all decision-making is evidence-based and defensible
  • Liaise with victims in line with relevant legislation and guidance
  • Engage with local voluntary and statutory partners to build a coordinated response to offending

What You'll Need

  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, Probation Qualification or equivalent)
  • Experience working within the criminal justice system and a strong understanding of probation practice
  • Strong risk assessment and report-writing capabilities
  • Expertise in behaviour change work and delivering structured interventions
  • A clear commitment to diversity, equality, and professional ethics
  • Full driving license and access to a vehicle (travelling expenses will be covered)
  • An enhanced DBS will be required for this role.

Location: Birkenhead, CH41 4PE

Contract: 3 months (with possibility of extension)

Work hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £18.19 p/h
