RSR is a public safety & enterprise security recruitment specialist. We assist public safety employers find the right talent. We are currently recruiting for a PIP1 accredited investigator to work as a Hospital Liaison Officer on a full-time, long-term contract based in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

The role is available on either a full-time or part-time basis, and will involve working from a Police Station and a Hospital. The role is paying £16.71 per hour (PAYE).

Job profile: To investigate crime and any other investigations at a level deemed appropriate and to assist in the investigation of serious and complex crime under the supervision, guidance and mentoring of a PIP 2 investigator.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Investigate criminal offences and occurrences as directed; ensuring Record Management System (RMS) and other IT applications are fully updated in accordance with force procedures.
  • Identify and interview suspects in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and procedures. Make effective use of intelligence interviews and TICs.
  • Identify, preserve and present evidence as mandated in Law and Force Procedures, identifying and filling any evidential gaps.
  • Gather, develop and use intelligence effectively. Complete appropriate intelligence interviews ensuring that all pertinent information gained is submitted correctly.
  • Liaise with Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for pre-charge advice including discussion of TICs admitted and Bad Character. Clarify requests for additional information to ensure a successful prosecution.
  • Prepare high quality evidential files for submission to CPS in agreed timescales.
  • Have an extensive knowledge of Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) and ensure the rules are adhered to.
  • Interview victims of crime and witnesses fully complying with the 'Victims Charter'. Identify vulnerable persons and take appropriate measures when conducting interviews.
  • Attend criminal and coroners court in support of investigations and give evidence in accordance with legislation when required to do so.
  • Assist student and other constables on attachment with investigation, case file preparation and disclosure issues thus enhancing the performance of the area.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Twelve (12) months experience in evidence gathering.
  • To be computer/keyboard literate and a competent keyboard user.

Desirable:

  • Two years' investigative experience.
  • A working knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system.
  • Excellent and evidenced report writing and communication skills e.g. the production of clear, concise and accurate records, letters and reports.
  • To have an understanding of data protection issues in order to ensure that information is handled and filed correctly.
