Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for an HR Policy Advisor for an independent executive non‑departmental public body based in Birmingham. You will be responsible for the review, development and implementation of HR Policies and Procedures as well as the effective management of employee relations casework and people related issues by providing advice and coaching managers to effectively handle casework and issues from start to finish. You will manage the upkeep of our People Policies, making recommendations for improvement and ensuring compliance with employment legislation.

Location: Birmingham City Centre (hybrid – 1 day a week in the office, 4 days WFH)

Contract: 12‑month contract

Salary: £19.43 per hour (equivalent to approximately £38,000 per annum)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Draft, revise and standardise HR Policies, guidance documents and toolkits.
  • Collaborate with the Policy Working Group and other key stakeholders to ensure people policies are kept up to date and accessible.
  • Develop and maintain a policy review schedule and communicate it to colleagues, managers and those involved in reviewing policies.
  • Lead on developing policy outputs and communicating these to the business, with support from the HR Operations Manager.
  • Support the consultation of policy change and implementation via the recognised trade union.
  • Provide trusted professional employment advice by applying specific employment relations knowledge.
  • Analyse and understand complex casework, react swiftly, highlight risks and trends, and identify pragmatic recommendations.
  • Use people data to identify trends and agree proactive actions to address concerns.
  • Serve as the custodian of policies to support operational HR activities and ensure alignment to relevant process documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to provide information and guidance through self‑service resources that build knowledge across the wider organisation.
  • Utilise data and insights from people surveys and audits to ensure policies are fit for purpose and comply with employment legislation.
  • Play a key role in implementing change projects (Competency and Wellbeing Frameworks) to support employee relations initiatives.

Person Specification:

Essential criteria:

  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of employment legislation and potential future developments.
  • Previous experience of managing multiple complex cases simultaneously.
  • Previous experience of HR policy reviews, developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and present people data using strong IT and communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, capable of managing a wide variety of tasks and dealing with unexpected changes at short notice.

Desirable criteria:

  • CIPD qualification or willingness to achieve Level 5.
