Red Snapper Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Probation Officer to join a Strategic Courts and Enforcement team within the South Central Region. This is a varied and fast-paced role based within a Regional Operations Centre, offering exposure to a broad range of probation activity. The role provides flexibility in duties and the opportunity to work across community and custody-based contexts, supporting operational priorities and responding to ad hoc work as required.

The position can be completed remotely, although there is an office base in Fareham for those able to attend occasionally. This role would suit a confident, adaptable PO who enjoys variety, works well at pace, and is comfortable collaborating with a wide range of colleagues and partner agencies.

Job Summary
  • Location: Remote (Office base: Fareham - optional attendance)
  • Region: South Central
  • Contract Type: Temporary / Contract (Initially for 3 months, with possibility of extension)
  • Hours: Full-time (part-time may be considered)
  • Rate: £21.75 PAYE / £28.64 Umbrella p/h
  • Working Pattern: Remote with flexible duties
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake a varied range of probation duties within a Regional Operations Centre.
  • Hold and manage cases where required, across both community and custody settings.
  • Complete ad hoc operational tasks to support courts and enforcement activity.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies, and services across the probation estate.
  • Use probation systems and processes effectively to maintain accurate records and support decision-making.
  • Apply professional judgement to manage risk, prioritise work, and respond to operational demands at pace.
Essential Requirements
  • Professional qualification in probation (DipPS, DipSW with PQF, CQSW with Probation Option, or equivalent recognised by HMPPS).
  • Recent experience working within probation, including community and custody-based practice.
  • Strong working knowledge of probation systems, processes, and enforcement activity.
  • Ability to work flexibly across a wide range of duties and priorities.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and agencies.
  • Able to work independently in a remote setting while contributing positively as part of a wider team.

This role is subject to pre-employment checks and Probation's Enhanced Vetting Level 1.
