Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Designing Out Crime Officer to join a public sector organisation on a temporary six-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced crime prevention or planning professional to help create safer communities by influencing the design of new developments and regeneration projects.
Working collaboratively with planners, architects, developers and local authorities, you will provide specialist advice using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime through thoughtful planning and design.
Key Responsibilities
- Review planning applications and provide specialist crime prevention advice.
- Work closely with architects, developers and planning authorities to influence safer design standards.
- Carry out site visits during construction to assess and advise on security measures.
- Promote crime prevention initiatives, including Secure by Design principles.
- Prepare detailed reports, recommendations and management information.
- Represent the organisation at meetings, consultations and partnership forums.
- Deliver presentations and training sessions to a range of professional audiences.
- Keep up to date with planning legislation, crime prevention practices, security products and emerging trends.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of crime prevention principles, community safety issues and their application within planning and the built environment.
- Understanding of the planning process and the ability to interpret planning and architectural drawings.
- Knowledge of legislation relating to planning, community safety and designing out crime.
- Experience preparing reports and delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to develop and implement new initiatives.
- Educated to QCF Level 4 (or equivalent experience).
Desirable
- Experience within a planning, architectural or design environment.
- Experience in a crime prevention or community safety role.
- Good local geographical knowledge.
- Experience analysing crime trends relating to the built environment.
- Experience delivering training or providing professional advice.
- Level 4 Crime Prevention qualification and Level 5 Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) qualification.
