We are currently recruiting for two Investigation Support Officers to join on an initial 5-month contract based in Colchester. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced investigative or safeguarding professionals to play a key role in supporting criminal investigations and protecting vulnerable individuals.

The Role

As an Investigation Support Officer (ISO), you will undertake and assist in investigations, taking on key responsibilities such as:

  • Researching, gathering and obtaining evidence
  • Gathering and recording intelligence
  • Liaising with Children's Social Care
  • Undertaking joint investigative actions with statutory partners
  • Attending child protection case conferences (virtually and in person)
  • Conducting safeguarding actions as part of investigations

You will play a crucial role in securing best evidence and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of investigations undertaken by the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview victims and witnesses, assist with suspect interviews, and take high-quality, accurate statements for case files
  • Assess the reliability and evidential value of statements for court purposes
  • Coordinate seizure and review of CCTV; analyse material and produce evidential and intelligence reports
  • Conduct house-to-house enquiries and provide evidence in court where required
  • Carry out investigative research using relevant systems and produce comprehensive reports
  • Liaise with victims and witnesses, providing updates and ensuring appropriate support and signposting
  • Assist with searches and act as Exhibits Officer when required, ensuring continuity, integrity, and secure handling of evidence (including hazardous materials where applicable)
  • Submit accurate and timely documentation in line with professional standards and evidential requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation including criminal law, PACE, CPIA and RIPA
  • Ensure effective information sharing with statutory partners, particularly Children's Social Care

About You

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have experience in criminal investigations and/or safeguarding vulnerable individuals (desirable)
  • Have experience conducting interviews and taking statements from adults and children (desirable)
  • Are highly motivated, proactive and adaptable
  • Have excellent communication skills and can engage effectively with officers, partners and members of the public
  • Can build and maintain strong professional relationships with statutory partners
  • Are able to prioritise workload, work independently, manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
  • Are confident using IT systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ideally have knowledge of police systems such as Athena and PNC (training can be provided)
  • Demonstrate high levels of integrity when handling sensitive and confidential material

You must:

  • Hold a full, clean UK driving licence
  • Be flexible to travel and work extended hours at short notice to meet operational demands
  • Complete a Personal Development Portfolio evidencing competency against the ISO criteria
  • Undertake a pre-employment health surveillance questionnaire
