Location: Sandwell & Dudley

Salary: 23,809.50 - 24,360.35

Hours: 37.5 per week (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm)

Contract: Permanent

Travel: Required - full driving licence and access to a vehicle

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Children & Young People’s Advocate to support children aged 8-14 who have experienced domestic abuse at home. This vital role provides one-to-one and group support, helping children understand their emotions, build resilience, and strengthen relationships with their parent or carer.

You will deliver the recognised DART (Domestic Abuse, Recovering Together) programme, working closely with adult domestic abuse practitioners to ensure holistic, family-centred support. This is a rewarding frontline role for someone passionate about empowering young people, promoting safety, and creating opportunities for children to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one and group support to children in schools and community settings
  • Create safe, child-led spaces where young people can share their feelings and experiences
  • Provide age-appropriate interventions on healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing, resilience and coping strategies
  • Assess suitability for the DART programme and deliver 10-week group sessions
  • Work collaboratively with adult domestic abuse practitioners to support both parent and child
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately
  • Build strong multi-agency partnerships with schools, social care, mental health services and other professionals
  • Complete risk assessments, support plans, case notes and reports to a high standard
  • Support with awareness sessions, presentations and occasional group work
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with safeguarding, GDPR and organisational policies

About You

Essential:

  • GCSEs English and Mathematics - Grade C or above. Minimum NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject, preferably working with children.
  • Experience supporting children and young people, including identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns
  • Experience managing a caseload
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and the impact of domestic abuse on children
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage children sensitively and creatively
  • Confident in using Microsoft Office and virtual platforms
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and stay calm under pressure

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering group programmes
  • Understanding of motivational interviewing
  • Knowledge of VAWG frameworks
  • Experience working with families facing complex needs (mental health, substance misuse, etc.)
