Take the lead in shaping probation services in a unique, thriving island community. The States of Guernsey are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking Chief Probation Officer to head the Guernsey Probation Service, Community Service teams, and the Offender Management Team in prison, as well as play a key role in MAPPA and wider criminal justice strategy.

This is a pivotal leadership role with strategic influence, statutory responsibility, and a real opportunity to drive innovation across criminal justice and social policy.

About the role
  • Strategic leadership of probation, rehabilitation, and offender management services
  • Member of the Committee for Home Affairs Senior Leadership Team
  • Advise on criminal justice and rehabilitation policy at a political level
  • Build partnerships across Courts, Guernsey Prison, MAPPA, Ministry of Justice, and other agencies
  • Deliver operational excellence, manage risk, and drive continuous improvement
  • Lead a high-performing team and promote a culture of inclusion, innovation, and development
  • Full accountability for service budgets, staff management, and compliance with legislative frameworks
What you'll need
  • Professional qualification in probation or a related criminal justice field
  • Relevant management qualification with extensive leadership experience in probation or criminal justice services
  • Strong expertise in risk management for violent and sexual offenders
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation (Bailiwick of Guernsey, England and Wales)
  • Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Strong track record in policy development, service delivery, budget management, and team leadership

Desirable:
