Location: Hybrid - 2 days working from home (report writing), 3 days on site
Must have: BOHS P402 and or P405 accreditation
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Asbestos Surveyor to join our Building Operations - Asbestos Team. You will play a key role in ensuring the safe management of asbestos across a wide range of council-owned and leased properties, including residential buildings, schools, commercial and industrial premises. This is a frontline role combining site-based inspections with report writing and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake Management and Refurbishment/Demolition asbestos surveys, including bulk sampling, material and priority risk assessments.
- Produce accurate, comprehensive reports (including floor plans) to agreed deadlines and service standards, providing clear advice on risk and asbestos management.
- Carry out re-inspection surveys, update asbestos management plans and systems, and make appropriate recommendations in line with council policy.
- Undertake a proportion of pre- and post-inspections to monitor quality and performance when external specialists are used.
- Update asbestos databases, specify and order works, and monitor or supervise asbestos removal or repair works.
- Respond to and manage emergency asbestos situations, including restricting access, arranging air testing and remedial works.
- Provide professional advice and respond to asbestos-related enquiries from clients and stakeholders.
- Build positive working relationships and deliver excellent customer care, escalating complaints or commendations in line with procedures.
- Attend required training to maintain and develop skills, and contribute to team objectives and meetings.
- Support wider project work and duties appropriate to the role.
Resources and Financial Management
You will contribute to effective financial management, cost control and value for money, ensuring resources are deployed efficiently in a changing and demanding environment.
Compliance
You will ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory and policy requirements, including Health & Safety, GDPR, and asbestos-related legislation, identifying risks and escalating issues where appropriate.
