Red recruitment are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer for a client based in Redditch.
Job Details:
- Monday- Thursday 06:00 - 16:15
- Permanent vacancy
- £45,000 Annual salary
Function:
- Design and develop specialised tools, jigs, fixtures, for manufacturing processes using CAD software
- Create detailed drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications
- Design tooling for both prototyping and mass production
- Work with engineers, production managers, and machinists to understand design requirements and identify solutions
- Manage tooling projects from concept to completion, ensuring they stay on schedule and within budget
- Coordinate with shop floor staff and other departments to meet production deadlines
- Manage procurement and inventory of tooling and equipment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To design press tools for small to medium sized pressings.
- Creating detailed 2D and 3D models and blueprints of tools using computer-aided design (CAD) software like SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Working closely with engineers, tool room, Quality, production managers, machinists, and customers to understand project requirements, identify design flaws and ensure the designs meet specifications
- Reviewing technical data and using engineering principles to develop and improve existing tooling designs for manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction and enhanced quality
- Developing prototypes, testing new designs, and implementing design changes based on feedback and performance data.
- Developing and maintaining documentation for tooling, managing projects from initial design to the first production run, and ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
- Developing and implementing quality control measures, assisting with troubleshooting manufacturing problems or equipment faults.
- Consulting with outside vendors and suppliers to discuss tooling requirements, negotiate costs, and ensure the quality and timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Researching and staying up to date with industry trends, advancements in tool design, and new materials and processes.
- Continue with training in accordance with department skills matrix and personal development plan.
- Always adhere to all company's PPE and Management systems & policies.
Key Competencies:
- Proficiency in programs like AutoCAD, SolidWorks or CATIA is essential for creating designs and models
- A deep understanding of processes such as injection moulding, stamping, forging and other tooling development methods is crucial.
- Knowledge of different materials, their properties, and how they perform in tooling is core requirement
- Expertise in 3D modelling, drafting techniques and reading engineering drawings is fundamental
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is a key technical competency
- Microsoft office proficiency
- Good time management
