Red Recruitment are looking for a Boom Assembly & Welding Rework Technician, to join our client team in Kettering.

You will be responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient assembly of boom structures and related components. Welding rework is a secondary element of the role and is limited to authorised rectification or rework where required. All work must be completed in accordance with engineering drawings, bill of materials, work instructions, quality instructions.

Duties

  • Assemble boom sections, sub-assemblies and associated mechanical components in accordance with engineering drawings, bills of materials, work instructions and customer specifications.
  • Inspect supplier-welded boom structures and components for visible defects, damage, distortion, dimensional issues or other non-conformities, and report concerns promptly to the Production manager or Quality team.
  • Carry out minor MIG/MAG weld rectification, rework only when required and formally authorized
  • Complete all weld rectification in accordance with the approved engineering or Quality instruction, applicable welding procedure.
  • Use measuring and inspection equipment to verify alignment, dimensions, fit-up and finished quality, and record results where required
  • Fit pins, bushes, cylinders, hoses, cable-management components and related hardware, where trained and instructed
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, lifting equipment and production machinery safely and only where authorised and trained.
  • Complete all production, quality, inspection, material traceability and job documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe work area, and dispose of waste in accordance with Company and environmental procedures.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mechanical assembly, fitting or a similar manufacturing role.
  • Practical MIG/MAG welding experience sufficient to carry out occasional, controlled weld rectification to approved procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, bills of materials, tolerances and technical instructions.
  • Competence in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of weld preparation, fit-up, visual inspection and common weld defects, including when an issue must be escalated rather than rectified.
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused, methodical approach to work.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with the confidence to raise concerns and ask for clarification when required.
  • Reliable attendance and timekeeping, with the ability to manage workload and meet production deadlines.
  • A positive attitude, self-motivation and willingness to learn additional assembly and production skills.
  • A current or previous recognised welding qualification/coding is desirable.
  • Experience in mobile elevating work platforms, access equipment, vehicle-mounted platforms or heavy plant is desirable.
  • Ability to maintain concentration while carrying out detailed or repetitive tasks in a production environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and undertake manual handling, bending, reaching and lifting in accordance with Company procedures and individual capability. xiskglj
  • Ability and willingness to wear the required personal protective equipment, including welding PPE, throughout relevant activities.

Pay rate: 14.50-17.00/ hour depending on experience

Working hours: Monday to Thursday 07:30-16:30 and Friday 07:30-14:00
