We are seeking a dedicated Horticultural Specialist to join our team and contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of our large plants. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for gardening and horticulture, with practical experience in plant maintenance. The successful applicant will be responsible for executing a range of horticultural tasks, ensuring high standards of plant health and landscape aesthetics.

Duties

  • Utilise hand tools and power tools to carry out planting, pruning, weeding, and soil preparation.
  • Implement irrigation systems and maintain their proper functioning to ensure optimal plant growth.
  • Monitor plant health and identify pests or diseases, applying appropriate treatments as needed.
  • Regularly monitor environmental conditions in the nursery and make adjustments as needed to optimize plant health.
  • Maintain detailed records of all pest and disease management activities, including treatments applied, results, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Work closely with the managers to develop and refine quality control protocols, ensuring all plants meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide training and guidance to other nursery staff on proper plant care, identification of pests and diseases, and best practices for maintaining plant health.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, research, and regulations related to nursery plant care and pest/disease management.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certification in horticulture, plant science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in plant health, pest identification, and disease management.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • PA1 & PA6 Sprayer Certificate (training can be provided).
  • Forklift Certificate would be desirable (training can be provided).
  • Be willing to assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed.
