We are currently partnering with a leading independent logistics and global supply chain provider in the Tilbury area who are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented European Operator to join their busy road freight team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating Pan-European surface transport services, managing end-to-end shipments, liaising with partners, carriers and customers, and ensuring all jobs are handled efficiently, profitably and in line with company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and manage allocated European road freight jobs in line with company systems and procedures, using transport and freight management platforms.
- Liaise professionally with carriers, partners and clients to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Oversee financial and operational aspects of shipments, ensuring timely invoicing, accurate costings and correct job file completion.
- Deliver excellent customer care, managing expectations and providing proactive updates on shipments.
- Maintain strong commercial awareness by monitoring job profitability, new and lost clients, and wider market opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with customs clearance requirements, including duties, taxes and associated documentation.
- Produce weekly reports, customer updates and KPI dashboards as required.
- Escalate any service, operational or financial issues promptly to supervisors or managers to protect business interests.
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience in European road freight or transport operations (preferred but not essential for the right trainee profile).
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with confidence when dealing with customers, partners and suppliers.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to ensure that jobs are accurately costed and remain profitable.
- High attention to detail, with strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask in a busy environment.
- Professional, helpful and courteous approach at all times, both internally and externally.
- A team player who is willing to learn, share knowledge and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture.
