Our client, an established international transport and logistics company, is seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Manager to lead its busy UK transport operation at London Gateway. This is a fantastic opportunity for an accomplished transport professional with strong leadership, compliance and operational management experience.

You will oversee the day-to-day running of approximately 20 vehicles and drivers, including articulated units and rigid vehicles, while ensuring legal compliance, operational efficiency and an outstanding service for customers across the fashion and general logistics sectors. The successful candidate must hold a National and International Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage and have proven experience managing a busy transport or logistics operation.

What you'll do:

  • Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring collections and deliveries are completed efficiently and on time
  • Manage approximately 20 vehicles and drivers, including articulated units and rigid vehicles
  • Plan and oversee routes and schedules for multi-drop and groupage operations
  • Monitor driver performance, productivity, conduct and training requirements
  • Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements
  • Maintain compliance with drivers' hours and tachograph legislation
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained, inspected and presented to a consistently high standard
  • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and liaise with external service providers
  • Monitor tracking systems, tachograph information and relevant CCTV footage
  • Work closely with transport planners, warehouse employees and customer service teams
  • Respond quickly and effectively to operational issues, delays and changing priorities
  • Produce and analyse transport reports
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all transport documentation is up to date
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Support the wider needs of the business when reasonably required

What you need:

  • A National and International Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage - essential
  • Proven experience managing a busy transport or logistics operation
  • Experience managing both vehicles and drivers
  • Strong knowledge of Operator Licence compliance
  • A thorough understanding of UK transport legislation, drivers' hours and tachograph regulations
  • Experience of multi-drop and groupage operations
  • Previous exposure to fashion or general logistics would be advantageous
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound operational decisions
  • Excellent organisation, communication and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive and commercially aware approach
  • Experience using transport management, vehicle tracking, tachograph and CCTV systems
  • Good Microsoft Excel and reporting skills
