Red Personnel – an award-winning recruitment agency – is delighted to partner with a West London authority to recruit an experienced Corporate Health & Safety Coordinator. This strategic role offers an opportunity to lead and shape corporate health and safety compliance across a dynamic, high-performing local authority.
About the Role
As the Corporate Health & Safety Coordinator, you will provide strategic leadership, assurance, and expert guidance across all service areas. Acting as the organisation’s Responsible Person under key legislation, you’ll oversee the delivery of robust and compliant health and safety systems, risk frameworks, and assurance processes that protect employees, residents, and the wider community. You will also lead on implementing Martyn’s Law requirements across local venues and public spaces, ensuring emergency preparedness, risk assessment, and security planning are fully embedded.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the corporate health and safety strategy, ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations.
- Act as the senior competent person for corporate health and safety, including fire, water hygiene, gas, asbestos, lifts, and general risk management.
- Manage and develop a professional team of Health & Safety Officers, providing operational support and strategic oversight.
- Liaise with Counter Terrorism Security Advisors (CTSAs), regulators, unions, and external safety bodies.
- Report regularly to senior leadership, audit committees, and public boards on compliance, performance, and emerging risks.
- Ensure maintenance and continual improvement of the organisation’s safety management systems and training programmes.
- Promote a proactive, positive safety culture across all departments and service areas.
About You
- Chartered IOSH Member (or equivalent demonstrable competence).
- Significant experience leading corporate health and safety within a large, complex organisation – ideally public sector or local authority.
- In-depth working knowledge of key legislation, including the Fire Safety Order, Health & Safety at Work Act, and Building Safety Act.
- Proven track record of influencing at senior level and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
