Red Kite Community Housing is a tenant-led housing association, owning and managing over 6,600 homes across the Wycombe district. Since our formation in 2011, we have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality homes and services, with tenants at the centre of everything we do. We are financially strong and hold the Regulator of Social Housing’s highest governance and viability ratings (G1/V1). As we move into a new phase of our strategic plan, we are seeking to appoint a Chair of our Audit and Risk Committee to join our Group Board.

About the Role

The Chair of Audit and Risk Committee plays a key role in supporting the Board to ensure strong governance, effective risk management and robust financial oversight across the Group. Reporting to the Chair of the Board, you will lead the Committee in providing assurance on internal controls, audit processes and the effectiveness of our risk and assurance framework. You will work closely with Board colleagues, the Executive team and internal and external auditors to ensure that high standards of governance and accountability are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring it operates effectively and independently
  • Provide assurance to the Board on governance, risk management and internal control frameworks
  • Oversee internal and external audit activity, including the annual financial statements
  • Support effective scrutiny of financial performance and reporting
  • Ensure risks are clearly identified, understood and managed appropriately
  • Contribute to Board discussions, providing constructive challenge and insight

About You

You will bring strong financial and governance expertise, with the ability to operate effectively at Board level. You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Significant experience as a Chair or member of an Audit and Risk Committee
  • Experience of the social housing sector and its regulatory requirements
  • A recognised professional accounting or auditing qualification
  • Senior-level experience within an organisation of comparable scale and complexity
  • Strong understanding of audit, risk and assurance frameworks
  • Experience overseeing financial reporting and year-end audit processes
  • The confidence to provide independent challenge and leadership

You will also share Red Kite’s commitment to tenant-led services and values-driven governance.

Time Commitment & Remuneration

Time Commitment: Approximately three days per month, including meetings, preparation and development activity. Meetings are a mix of in-person and virtual. Remuneration: £9,500 per annum.
