This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded analyst who enjoys understanding legacy applications, identifying dependencies and risks, and helping shape technology modernisation strategies that align business and technical objectives. You will work closely with application owners, business stakeholders, architects, developers, infrastructure teams and DevOps specialists to support decision-making throughout the application modernisation lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse applications developed using technologies including Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and PowerBuilder.
  • Document application functionality, architecture, integrations, interfaces, data flows and dependencies.
  • Engage with business users and application owners to understand operational processes, application usage and business criticality.
  • Identify technical debt, risks, support requirements and modernisation challenges.
  • Gather and document both technical and functional requirements.
  • Evaluate modernisation approaches including:
    • Re-engineering
    • Re-platforming
    • Application replacement
    • Consolidation
    • Retirement
  • Support the design of future-state solutions leveraging .NET, Azure and OpenShift technologies.
  • Produce high-quality assessment reports, technical documentation and recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with architecture, development and DevOps teams throughout migration, testing and deployment activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst, Application Consultant or similar technically focused role.
  • Strong background in application discovery, technical assessment and legacy application modernisation programmes.
  • Hands-on experience assessing and documenting applications built using one or more of the following technologies: Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6, PowerBuilder.

  • Excellent analytical, documentation and requirements-gathering skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear business-focused recommendations.

Important - Please Only Apply If You Can Clearly Demonstrate The Following

  • A minimum of four years' experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst or similar applications-focused technical role.
  • Proven experience carrying out technical discovery and assessment of legacy applications.
  • Hands-on experience analysing at least one of the following technologies: Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6, PowerBuilder.
  • Experience contributing to application modernisation, migration or transformation programmes.
  • Knowledge of .NET applications and modernisation approaches.
  • Exposure to Azure and/or OpenShift environments.
  • Strong documentation skills, including the production of application assessments, technical reports and recommendations.
  • The ability to discuss specific examples of the above experience in detail at interview.

Ideal Candidate

You will be a technically credible Application Analyst capable of bridging the gap between legacy applications, business processes and modern platforms. You will bring a consultative approach, strong technical assessment capabilities and the ability to provide meaningful insight and recommendations that support successful application modernisation initiatives.

Please Note
