Working as a trusted partner, we have an extensive track record of delivering engineering solutions that allow our global clients to successfully complete the most challenging construction, maintenance and decommissioning projects. With a Head Office and purpose built Technology Centre in Hexham, Northumberland - our core services include the design, build and testing of operational equipment for deployment in a hazardous environment.
Due to continued demand for RED's services, we are looking to reinforce the engineering team with Principal and Senior Engineers. If you are seeking a new challenge, are innovative, driven and excited about shaping the future with us, we would love to hear from you.
The role: Working as part of an agile team, you will deliver challenging engineering projects across our three core services of engineering, consultancy equipment design and build, and testing services. The roles of Senior Engineer and Principal Engineer will also participate in the development of RED engineering practices and capability, support the development of engineers within the team, and give input to the technical direction of RED.
Duties will include:
- Completion of engineering consultancy studies, generation of reports
- Collation of requirements, management of project stakeholders
- Concept development and design of mechanical equipment and mechanical focused systems with electrical and hydraulic aspects
- Detailed engineering leading to the generation of equipment drawings and specifications
- Oversight of equipment manufacture in the supply chain, focusing on technical compliance
- Development and delivery of bespoke test programmes for technology development or validation
- Delivery of assembly and testing activities in the RED Technology Centre
- Potential to lead installation and commissioning of equipment on clients sites
Who we are looking for: We are looking for applications with the following criteria:
Essential:
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or above)
- A strong depth of experience in high risk industries, for example offshore oil & gas operations, nuclear new build or decommissioning activity (typically in excess of 8 years)
- A strong track record in delivery of high complexity engineering projects through various phases, to include:
- Concept design - problem solving and initial solution option generation
- Detailed design - design from first principles, calculations, FEA, manufacture drawings (specifically fabrications and machined components)
- Compilation of specifications - requirements / functional / quality / component specifications
- Interacting with key suppliers
- Completion of Assembly, commissioning of factory acceptance testing
- Ability to manage multiple external stakeholders
- Capable in driving internal resources to ensure project delivery
- Proficient in IT and engineering software packages
- Good project delivery
- Strong self organisation and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including report writing of complex topics
- Ability to work effectively within teams and interface with technical clients
- Capable of communicating complex subjects to engage project stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and interface multiple organisations
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and practices
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (specifically including fabrication and machining)
- Experience of multidiscipline engineering
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders
- Draw out project critical information from stakeholder input
- Ability to draw stakeholders to a conclusion
- Capable of defining scope into a format engineering teams can deliver
- Ability to communicate complex challenges and solutions to a varied team

The role(s) will be based in the Hexham office with hours of 37.5 per week, core hours 9am to 4pm Monday to Thursday, 9am to 2pm Friday.
