We are recruiting a Trainee Claims Handler for an established, FCA-regulated insurance business. You do not need prior insurance experience but should be good with people on the phone, organised enough to manage your own workload, and interested in learning a proper trade.
Who this is for:
- If you are in a contact centre, complaints, customer service for a utility, housing association, lettings agent, or bank, you are closer to being a Trainee Claims Handler than you think.
- If you are in retail or hospitality management and want to avoid evenings and weekends.
What you will be doing:
- Taking motor claims when they first come in β getting the details right and informing the customer about what happens next.
- Managing your own caseload of claims by phone and in writing.
- Being the point of contact for policyholders and brokers.
- Learning how liability works β determining who was at fault and why.
- Flagging anything that does not look right.
What you will need:
- Customer service experience in some form β contact centre, complaints, retail, hospitality, or admin.
- Good communication skills on the phone, able to remain calm under pressure.
- Organised, accurate, and comfortable with new computer systems.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above in English and Maths.
- Willingness to work towards the CII Certificate β fully funded during work time.
What you get:
- Salary: Β£24,479 β Β£26,500, with annual salary reviews.
- 35 hours, Monday to Friday, 9amβ5pm. No evenings or weekends.
- Flexible start and finish times, hybrid working after probation.
- Fully funded CII qualifications β a recognised professional qualification.
- One-to-one coaching from a dedicated in-house claims trainer.
- 29 days' holiday including bank holidays, rising to 36 with length of service, plus your birthday off and a half-day for seasonal shopping.
- Holiday buy and sell options, early finish on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
- Company-paid health cash plan β dental, optical, therapies, 24/7 GP access, counselling.
- Contributory pension, Β£1,000 refer-a-friend bonus, recognition bonus of up to Β£300.
- Free on-site parking, casual dress with free branded clothing, cycle to work scheme.
- Sports and social club, on-site mental health first aiders.
- A Living Wage and Living Hours employer, Disability Confident Committed.
Being straight with you: The learning curve is real. Insurance has its own language and it takes a few months before claims feel routine. The initial claims can be challenging. It is also five days a week on-site to begin with, and you will need to drive, as the site is on the edge of Egerton and public transport may not be reliable.
What you gain is a qualification funded by the company and a career with growth opportunities.
