We are seeking an experienced senior Architect to join a small team within a well-established business in St Albans. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-end luxury projects from concept through to completion, requiring both technical expertise and strong collaborative skills. This is a part-time role with flexible working hours. The client is happy to accommodate working patterns around school runs and other personal commitments, provided project deadlines and coordination requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare and submit Planning Applications and Building Surveys, including applications within conservation areas
- Liaise with Building Control, review and file inspection reports
- Ensure all work complies with building regulations and planning requirements
- Technical Design & Documentation
- Produce detailed construction drawings from Stage 4 (Technical Design) through Stage 5 (Manufacturing and Construction)
- Create section drawings to determine excavation depths and foundation heights
- Develop construction details and joinery specifications
- Produce staircase drawings ensuring correct headroom clearances are achieved
- Generate elevation drawings and floor plans
- Review tender drawings and scale PDFs to extract critical dimensions for estimating and site teams
- Coordination & Procurement
- Issue design checklists to clients to capture design requirements
- Prepare and send enquiries to subcontractors including staircase suppliers, electricians, plumbers, and plasterers
- Send out consultant enquiries for new projects
- Research and specify appropriate products and materials
- Project Support
- Provide ongoing drawing support for site teams throughout construction
- Produce drawings to support contractor variations
- Undertake take-offs from drawings for material orders and quantities
- Create progress drawings showing completed works (e.g. underpinning stages)
- Produce feasibility drawings for development options and alternative investment arrangements
- Information Management
- Manage and file all project design information systematically
- Share design information effectively between project teams
- Print technical drawings (A1 format) for site and office use
- Maintain up-to-date project drawing registers
What the employer is looking for:
- Proven experience as an Architectural Technologist or Technical Architect
- Proficiency in CAD software (VectorWorks preferred, with ability to export to AutoCAD)
