You will be responsible for overseeing and directing the use of CFD within the RBAT Aerodynamics Department. You will provide the development of processes, modelling methods and metrics for the use of CFD in the Aerodynamics Department while providing high-level liaison with RBAT departments, external clients and external contracted CFD resource.
Key Responsibilities:- To be responsible for the development of rigorous processes which enable successful integration of CFD as a design tool in the Aerodynamics Development Process.
- To advise on the right methods for effective use of CFD for design projects.
- To form productive relationships with external suppliers for CFD Tools and Methodology development.
- To be responsible for the build and maintenance of all CFD Processes.
- To be proactive in developing new techniques for vehicle aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, wave modelling, thermal modelling, morphing / geometry manipulation and reduce the CAD to Analysis work-load of the aerodynamicists within the group.
- To contribute to regular meetings with senior members of the Aerodynamics Department, continually reviewing progress, ‘Champion’ the strategy to embrace CFD and work with the Head of Department to bring this Technology to bear on the process of aerodynamic development.
- Follow & advise on emerging technologies such as GPU compute, AI in Engineering.
- To contribute to the set up and improvement of formal operating procedures as requested by Head of Aerodynamics.
- To contribute to aerodynamic development strategy within department.
- Extensive experience in the use of CFD applied to vehicle development is essential, in particular expert knowledge of ANSYS Fluent and ANSA.
- Must be proficient in: Python, C++, Bash, Perl, SQL, and Docker/Containerisation.
- The right candidate will strive to fulfil the vision of cutting edge, integrated world class CFD tools to the Aerodynamics Development Process.
- Proficiency in: LSF/Slurm/PBS, C++, Kubernetes is desirable.
- Someone who can leverage their industry knowledge and networks to help identify new opportunities and strengthen our external partnerships.
