Red Bull Powertrains is offering an incredible opportunity for a Performance Development Engineer (Single Cylinder) to join our team as we head into our first-ever racing season with a Red Bull designed power unit. You’ll be at the heart of our operation, developing and perfecting race-ready performance, playing a crucial role in delivering a power unit capable of competing at the sharp end of the 2026 Formula One grid. Innovative PU performance ideas are a core attribute of being a part of the Powertrains team.

This role will work on the development of components and systems to guide the designers with setting design criteria to ensure the engine is optimised, safe, and reliable.

Your role:

  • Identify, specify, carry out, and post-process thermodynamic development testing on components and systems
  • Work closely and cohesively with the other members of the Department on the development of components and systems, and ensure tools are suitable for accurately measuring their physical behaviour
  • Develop new methods and techniques to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of thermodynamic development testing

Essential skills:

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in F1 hybrid power unit design is advantageous but high-performance racing engine experience or involvement in high-performance R&D projects is a pre-requisite
  • A high level of Mechanical Engineering competence in both technical and practical applications
  • A thorough understanding of performance thermodynamics
  • Practical knowledge of engine testing methodologies
