Purpose: Champion and lead Platform Engineering and infrastructure activities across the Red Bull Technology Group organisations leading a team of Platform and infrastructure engineers. Architect and implement world-class infrastructure solutions that meet the needs of analytics software developers and users across Red Bull Technology Group. Champion this community within the broader IT department.

Accountabilities:

  • Platform Engineering Governance: Lead the development of a shared vision and roadmap for platform infrastructure. Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that business and operational needs are met. Establish forums to align on priorities, oversee progress, share knowledge, and encourage effective and efficient use of infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure Optimisation & Operational Excellence: Manage the deployment, maintenance, and efficient operation of Platform infrastructure solutions within agreed timelines and budgets. Ensure the seamless integration of on-premises and cloud resources to maintain high levels of capability, redundancy, resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery and cost-effectiveness. Apply and monitor performance metrics to maintain and improve system performance, whilst keeping accurate infrastructure documentation, standards, and asset records.
  • Infrastructure Team Development and Positive Culture: Manage the Platform Engineering team to align with evolving business demands. Ensure team members are equipped and motivated to deliver projects and operations with high quality and efficiency. Encourage staff to collaborate, learn, innovate and share knowledge among both the HPC and Platform Engineering team as well as wider Infrastructure group. Actively support staff career progression.
  • Engagement with Business and IT Stakeholders: Build strong working relationships with IT and departmental stakeholders to provide robust infrastructure solutions that meet business needs. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop plans and to address problems. Champion the broader IT team within the user community to deliver business requirements and IT solutions.
  • Architecture: Lead the architecture definition of robust platform infrastructure solutions. Deliver and maintain an evolving roadmap representative of the business requirements. Actively participate bringing projects to Architecture Review Board (ARB) to ensure all architectural solutions meet strategic objectives. Promote platform engineering practices where appropriate, identifying opportunities to expand these methods to other parts of RBTG’s infrastructure.
  • Security, Compliance, & Risk Management: Working closely with the InfoSec group to develop and apply security policies, procedures, and controls to Platform infrastructure. Proactively push to make continuous improvements, aligning with industry best practice to reduce risks. Assist in the development and testing of disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
  • Supplier & Partner Relationship Management: Manage supplier and partner relationships to ensure the delivery of effective, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions. Monitor supplier performance to maintain high service standards and elevate issues when necessary.
  • Emerging Technology Evaluation and Adoption: Stay abreast of technology advancements and lead the evaluation of new tools and methods. Coordinate proof‑of‑concept trials and build adoption strategies to enhance business performance, reduce operational costs, and drive innovation within the platform environment. Bolster communication lines between IT Infrastructure groups by sharing knowledge and tools to strengthen the posture of RBTG’s Infrastructure estate.
  • Manage Platform Engineering Service Delivery: Take responsibility for the timely resolution of Platform Infrastructure and Platform Engineering related incidents and problems using the IT standard logging system to track and update. This includes overseeing a structured incident management process to minimise downtime and disruption, and leading root cause analysis efforts to prevent future issues. Ensure changes are tracked and communicated using the centralised IT system. Implement and maintain observability platforms to ensure ongoing service excellence and communicate priorities and workload streams to internal and external key IT stakeholders.

Essential Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Engineering applications and the demands they place on IT infrastructure.
  • Greater than 4 years’ experience working in a demanding high stakes technical infrastructure.
  • Compute for demanding workloads - clusters, servers, containerisation and cloud services.
  • Big Data storage - hardware, cloud object storage, IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS), IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli).
  • Networking – InfiniBand and Ethernet.
  • Experience with container environment. Kubernetes, Docker, Podman.
  • Experience with Kafka.
  • High end clients – workstations, VDIs and virtual graphics.
  • Linux and Windows.
  • Scripting and automation – Ansible, Python.
  • Methods to improve application and underlying infrastructure performance.
  • Large and high-performance databases.
  • Virtualisation (compute, client and storage). OLVM, OpenStack.
  • Data centre management (e.g. power and cooling).
  • Experience with DevOps practices and platforms.
  • Cloud deployments and migrations – Oracle OCI experience preferred.
